Classic Nashville Drive with Modern Control
The new Browne ALKENE brings the classic “Nashville” overdrive sound into a modern, highly refined format.
Inspired by the organic overdrive tones heard on the pedalboards of legendary session players like Tim Pierce and Jerry McPherson, the ALKENE delivers smooth clipping, subtle amp-like compression, and exceptional touch sensitivity.
Browne Amplification carefully tuned the circuit to keep the gain range extremely usable across the entire sweep. The midrange has been restored to avoid the overly scooped character common in many Nashville-style drives, while the low end has been tightened for improved clarity and punch. The result is an overdrive that adds low-mid warmth and body without ever sounding muddy.
The ALKENE shines at crunchy rhythm tones where chord clarity remains intact, yet it can easily transition into singing, expressive lead tones when pushed.
One of the pedal’s standout qualities is how effectively it enhances otherwise uninspiring backline amplifiers. By adding the right amount of low-mid presence and subtle compression, the ALKENE can make stiff or thin amps feel fuller, more dynamic, and far more enjoyable to play.
For a great starting point, try setting the Level around 2 o’clock, slowly bringing in the Gain, and adjusting the Tone to taste. Many players immediately notice their amp sounding bigger and more responsive, with notes jumping off the fretboard.
The ALKENE also offers several clipping and tone options that expand its versatility without making the pedal overly complicated.
