The Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian is a faithful recreation of the 1990s Green Sovtek Big Muff.
Wren and Cuff discovered that the Tall Fonts exhibit more pronounced and clearer highs compared to other versions, resulting in a unique openness in the high frequencies. They’re not as dark sounding as the Civil War Muffs, giving them a slight gritty edge and a rudeness that sets them apart.
Vintage examples showed inconsistencies in the parts used, so Wren and Cuff selected a particularly sweet sounding pedal as a reference when creating the Tall Font Russian.
Each Tall Font Russian is equipped with specially modified pots to prevent the low-mid range from becoming too muddy, contributing to the more overdrive-like quality these pedals can produce.
This characteristic boxy growl makes them excellent for bass and ideal for creating growling, raunchy guitar tones!
The lows of the Tall Font Russian have an overdriven compression that keeps them tight, while the highs exhibit a rich upper-harmonic quality. The mids feature the standard Muff scoop but are not as pronounced as in some other versions.
Overall, the Tall Font Russian offers a less gainy tone, resulting in a unique Muff with its own character.
