The Walrus Audio Canvas Volume reimagines the traditional volume pedal with a fully analog signal path, contactless position sensing and extensive control over how the pedal responds to your playing. With no strings, potentiometers or gears used to track treadle position, it eliminates many of the mechanical components that can wear out or become scratchy over time while delivering smooth, consistent volume control.

Rather than using a conventional potentiometer to control your signal directly, Canvas Volume uses a precision position sensor to track the movement of the treadle. High-quality analog VCAs then control the actual signal level, preserving an all-analog audio path while providing considerably more control over the pedal's feel and response.

One of Canvas Volume's most powerful features is its selection of eight different taper curves. Walrus developed its own smooth Canvas taper and modeled seven additional responses after popular volume pedals from Lehle, Boss, Dunlop, Ernie Ball, Hotone, Hilton and Goodrich. This lets you choose anything from familiar guitar-oriented volume curves to the more linear response preferred by many pedal steel players.

The Minimum On setting determines how much signal remains when the pedal is fully heel-down. At its lowest setting, the signal can be attenuated by approximately 90dB, while higher settings keep part of your signal audible. This is particularly useful for volume swells that don't need to fade completely to silence or for players who want a narrower, more immediately responsive volume range.

Canvas Volume can also do more than simply attenuate your signal. The Gain setting determines the maximum output at toe-down, starting at unity gain and offering additional gain in 3dB increments up to +9dB. This allows the pedal to function as both a volume controller and a clean boost when additional output is needed.

A dedicated Lag parameter adds another creative dimension by introducing a controllable delay between treadle movement and the resulting volume change. Settings range from an immediate response to a dramatic two-second lag, allowing smoother transitions and creating naturally flowing volume swells without requiring perfectly precise foot movement.

Flexible stereo routing makes Canvas Volume equally comfortable in simple and complex rigs. It can operate as Mono In/Mono Out with a dedicated Tuner Out, Stereo In/Stereo Out, or Mono In/Dual Mono Out. The desired mono configuration can be selected through the pedal's Utility Menu.

The adjustment controls are discreetly located beneath the heel of the treadle, keeping them out of the way during normal use while remaining easy to access. Calibration, mono routing selection and firmware update functionality are also available through the Utility Menu, with USB-C provided for firmware updates.

Built around a rugged steel and aluminum chassis, the Walrus Audio Canvas Volume combines the familiar hands-on control of a traditional volume pedal with the precision, flexibility and reliability of a modern design, making it equally well suited to mono and stereo pedalboards, stage rigs and studio setups.
