Van Diemens' premium Treble Booster!

Van Diemens Analogue Audio Disruptors is a boutique effect pedal manufacturer based in Tasmania, Australia.

All of their effects are filled with rare, NOS and reclaimed vintage components.

The Red Ochre Deluxe is their premium Treble Booster.

These units were ordered with über rare Mullard CV7003, a military-spec version of the legendary OC44 used in the 1960s Dallas Rangemasters!

The CV7003/OC44 delivers the thick, balanced and wooly tone that remains the standard for Treble Boosters to this day!

Tuned just a little darker than the original Rangemaster in its brightest position, the Red Ochre Deluxe is designed to add classic drive and snarl to your tone without ear piercing spikes. The pedal is filled with usable tones and works with a variety of guitars, amps and pickups.

The Red Ochre Deluxe features a 3-way rotary tone switch to help you dial-in the perfect amount of bite!

The circuit is loaded with a selection of NOS Philips, Mullard mustard and Mullard tropical fish capacitors, as well as NOS Piher and Allen Bradley resistors. These beauties are all mounted onto a handcrafted turret board.

Van Diemens also uses Alpha potentiometers, Neutrik or Switchcraft jacks and Alpha footswitches.

Better than imagined

So I thought that this pedal was just a rotary three way switch on the tone dial but it is a fully sweepable tone dial which allows for a much better fine tuned sound. Once it’s dialled in, I don’t want to turn it off because it makes my gear sound that much better. I just won’t use it along with my fuzz cause that just doesn’t work… best setting for me is having my volume on the guitar rolled down and set to my desired “clean” tone from my germanium fuzz and then turn the volume of the boost up to match which allows for both pedals to be controlled by my guitar output volume.

When you turn the tone dial up on the pedal, it seems to just add in bass and mids while holding the treble at a steady level which works so well. I’m using this with a Strat and it really isn’t a harsh sounding treble boost, it’s smooth and clear. I was leaning into the idea of a clean boost but I’m so glad I didn’t.
