Complete with the harmonic richness of a tube-modeled preamp, the EC-1 delivers anything from subtle slapback to expansive ambient echoes with an impressively lush stereo image.
Its beautifully tuned low-frequency response, tape saturation, and sublime echo decay offer everything you’d expect from a high-quality tube-driven tape echo, packed into a compact enclosure.
At the heart of the EC-1 lies Strymon’s evolved dTape technology, originally introduced with the El Capistan.
Meticulously modeled after an exceptionally maintained and modified Echoplex EP-2 tweaked by the legendary Cesar Diaz, the EC-1 embodies the best aspects of the EP-2 and EP-3 circuits, offering a nostalgic yet versatile sonic palette.
Two preamp voicings allow you to tailor your tone: one adds brightness to darker pickups while the other emphasizes warmth and balance, enhancing single-coil guitars. Both options include an optional +6dB boost or can be bypassed for a clean, unprocessed signal.
The Record Level switch lets you select the amount of tape saturation—from pristine repeats to rich, harmonically complex echoes.
Mechanics and Tape Age controls let you dial in vintage tape imperfections for organic modulation and warmth.
High repeat settings create lush sound beds or near-runaway feedback, while the Time knob offers classic sliding-head pitch effects.
Tap tempo ensures seamless tempo changes without unwanted artifacts, keeping your playing tight and in time.
Full stereo in/out capabilities allow the EC-1 to process incoming stereo signals independently, making it versatile for various rig setups.
