The SoloDallas CompanDrive 65 is a fully analog gain pedal inspired by the studio companding circuits that helped shape countless classic recordings. Rather than functioning as a traditional overdrive, the CompanDrive 65 is designed to enhance your signal with a unique combination of harmonic richness, dynamic response, compression, and clarity, delivering the kind of polished, mix-ready character normally associated with vintage studio gear.
At the heart of the CompanDrive 65 is a carefully voiced multi-stage analog circuit that combines several distinct processes into a single cohesive design.
The signal first passes through a Vintage Console Gain Circuit, built around the well-known LM308 op-amp, adding harmonic richness, presence, and subtle overdrive character. From there, it moves through a compressor and expander stage inspired by classic companding systems, creating a feel that is dynamic, smooth, and unusually responsive under the fingers. A final vintage-style op-amp boost stage restores level while preserving clarity and articulation.
The result is not simply more gain, but a more dimensional, harmonically enhanced version of your core tone.
The CompanDrive 65 can function as a low-gain drive, harmonic enhancer, compressor-like tone shaper, or front-end boost, depending on how it’s used in your rig.
Its character leans more toward studio polish and dynamic enhancement than conventional pedal-style distortion, making it equally effective as an always-on tone sweetener or as a way to push an amp or other gain stages into richer, more expressive territory.
Compact, fully analog, and built in the USA, the CompanDrive 65 offers a distinctly different approach to gain for players chasing depth, feel, and classic recorded tone.
