Inspired by the legendary 1962 Silvertone Model 1448 "Amp in Case" guitar, the new Silvertone 1449 captures the unmistakable charm of one of the most recognizable vintage guitars ever produced while introducing a host of modern refinements for improved performance and reliability. Retaining its iconic dual Lipstick pickup configuration, the 1449 delivers the bright, jangly tones that helped make the original a favorite of artists including Neil Young and Beck.
A solid mahogany body and comfortable soft "C" mahogany neck provide a familiar feel, while the 24.75" scale length, 12" radius rosewood fingerboard and new semi-hemispherical frets offer a smoother, faster playing experience than the original design. Practical upgrades such as a spoke-wheel dual-action truss rod and high-quality Kluson-style tuners make setup and long-term maintenance considerably easier.
The custom-wound Silvertone Lipstick single-coil pickups stay true to the character that made these guitars famous, delivering articulate cleans, sparkling rhythm tones and plenty of vintage personality. A reverse-wound, reverse-polarity neck pickup provides hum-cancelling operation in the middle position, while the bridge pickup has been slightly overwound for improved balance and output.
Perhaps the most significant upgrade is the fully adjustable string-through bridge with individually adjustable solid brass saddles, providing far more accurate intonation than vintage examples while preserving the instrument's unmistakable character. The result is a guitar that looks and sounds like a classic Silvertone, but performs to modern expectations both on stage and in the studio.
