Originally introduced through the Sears catalog in the early 1960s, the Silvertone 1446 has become one of the brand's most collectible and recognizable instruments. Prized by players for its distinctive mini humbuckers and lightweight semi-hollow construction, the original 1446 delivered a warm, articulate voice unlike anything else of its era. This modern reissue faithfully captures that character while introducing a series of thoughtful refinements for today's musicians.
Its chambered arched maple body with a center block offers the airy resonance of a semi-hollow guitar while improving sustain, increasing feedback resistance and making the instrument equally at home on stage or in the studio. A comfortable soft "C" mahogany neck, 24.75" scale length and 12" radius rosewood fingerboard provide a familiar playing experience, while the new Silvertone Easy Feel frets deliver a smooth, effortless feel across the neck.
At the heart of the 1446 are Wilkinson R-Series mini humbuckers, painstakingly developed as faithful recreations of the rare original P19 pickups designed by Seth Lover. Built using custom tooling, period-correct Alnico V magnets and vintage-inspired construction, they produce the clarity, warmth and harmonic richness that made the original 1446 such a favorite among collectors and recording musicians.
Completing the package is a vintage-style trapeze tailpiece paired with a Tune-o-matic bridge for reliable intonation and tuning stability, along with classic Silvertone details including block fingerboard inlays, Cupcake control knobs and a cream single-ply pickguard. The result is a guitar that faithfully captures the spirit of the original while delivering the playability and reliability modern players expect.
