High-voltage tube drive meets the legendary Keeley Phat Mod

The Keeley Tube Drive brings together two very different approaches to overdrive in a single pedal: a genuine high-voltage vacuum tube preamp and Keeley's legendary Phat Mod drive circuit. Each side can be used independently or stacked together, giving you everything from warm, touch-sensitive tube breakup to punchy, saturated overdrive with remarkable flexibility.

This limited edition takes the concept even further with a vintage 1987 Philips JAN 12AT7WC tube in place of the 12AX7 found in the standard Tube Drive. Originally manufactured to demanding military specifications, the Philips JAN 12AT7WC gives the Tube section its own distinctive response, with added chime, a stronger midrange presence and exceptional top-end clarity. Only a very small number were made available to dealers, and Electric Mojo was able to secure just six pedals from this special run.

Unlike pedals that use a tube at low voltage primarily for coloration, the Tube Drive operates its dual-triode tube circuit at approximately 168 volts. Both triodes are run in series in Class A before feeding a vintage tweed-style tone stack, allowing the tube to behave much more like the front end of a traditional tube amplifier. The result is warm, harmonically rich overdrive with natural compression, dynamic response and excellent sensitivity to your playing.

The second half of the pedal is based on Keeley's celebrated Phat Mod circuit, offering a more focused and familiar overdrive voice with plenty of punch, body and sustain. Dedicated Level, Drive and Tone controls make it easy to use the Phat Mod on its own, while the Tube section has its own independent Level, Gain and Tone controls.

Where things become particularly interesting is when the two sides are combined. The internal effect order can be reversed with a simple footswitch gesture, allowing you to run the Tube section into the Phat Mod or the Phat Mod into the Tube section. Each configuration responds differently, letting one circuit push and shape the other without requiring any additional patching.

The Tube Drive also offers selectable True Bypass or Keeley silent buffered switching, along with a TRS Remote input for external control of both sections. Despite operating its tube at genuine high voltage internally, the pedal runs from a standard 9V DC center-negative power supply, making it easy to integrate into a modern pedalboard.

Built from start to finish at Keeley Electronics in Oklahoma City, the limited Tube Drive 1987 JAN 12AT7WC combines genuine high-voltage tube circuitry, one of Keeley's most established overdrive designs and a rare vintage Philips tube in a remarkably versatile dual-drive pedal.
