The FTelettronica Dystopian Fuzz is a versatile fuzz and gain pedal built around three distinctly different modes. With two contrasting fuzz voices, a dedicated Gain Boost mode and independent Bass and Treble controls, it can move from articulate, harmonically rich fuzz to thick low-end saturation or serve as a powerful boost for pushing your guitar, pedals or amplifier harder.
Fuzz 1 delivers the brighter and more harmonically focused of the two fuzz voices, emphasizing upper harmonics for a more cutting, articulate character. Fuzz 2 shifts the emphasis toward the lower frequencies, producing a fuller and heavier fuzz with greater body and weight. In either mode, the Gain control determines the depth of the fuzz, adding increasing saturation and sustain as it is turned up.
Switch to Gain Boost and the Dystopian Fuzz takes on an entirely different role. Instead of controlling fuzz depth, the Gain knob determines the amount of boost, making the pedal particularly useful for adding power and presence to lower-output guitars or pushing another drive pedal or the front end of an amplifier into greater saturation.
Independent Bass and Treble controls provide considerably more flexibility than a conventional single-knob fuzz tone circuit. Both controls are flat at noon and allow their respective frequency ranges to be boosted or cut, making it easy to tighten the lows, add top-end bite, tame excessive brightness or build a much larger and heavier fuzz sound.
With its three contrasting modes and flexible two-band EQ, the Dystopian Fuzz can cover several very different roles without becoming complicated to use. Handmade in Italy by FTelettronica, it is equally at home as a characterful fuzz, a thick source of saturated sustain or a powerful gain boost for the rest of your rig.
