The Discomfort Designs Phantom Limb is an experimental micro looper and delay designed to turn fragments of your playing into constantly shifting, unpredictable textures. At its heart are nine independent micro-loopers, each with its own random playback trigger, creating everything from subtle repetitions and rhythmic fragments to dense, glitchy layers of sound.
The Chance control determines the probability that the individual loopers will be triggered, while Length controls the duration of the captured fragments. Together, they let you shape the effect from occasional, unexpected repetitions to a wonderfully chaotic stream of overlapping micro-loops.
Because random looping can produce moments you might never hear twice, Phantom Limb also lets you lock its loop buffer and capture portions of the previous few moments. Once the buffer is locked, the Length and Chance controls can scan through the captured audio and dynamically alter the length of the repeated fragments, turning a fleeting moment into something you can manipulate and explore.
Everything generated by the looping section is then fed into Phantom Limb's delay engine. Three distinct delay modes let you choose between clean repeats, drifting modulation or pitch-shifted delay, adding another layer of movement and transformation to the micro-loops.
From fractured rhythmic patterns and glitchy repetitions to evolving ambient textures and complete sonic unpredictability, Phantom Limb combines looping and delay in a unique instrument designed to capture happy accidents and turn them into something entirely new.
• Experimental micro looper and delay
• Nine independent micro-loopers with individual random playback triggers
• Chance control adjusts the probability of loop playback
• Length control determines the duration of captured loops
• Lockable loop buffer captures portions of the previous few moments
• Length and Chance controls manipulate and scan through audio when the buffer is locked
• Micro-looping section feeds directly into the delay engine
• Three delay modes: Clean, Drift and Pitch Shift
• Drift mode adds modulation to the delay
• Pitch Shift mode adds pitch manipulation to the delay
• Designed for glitchy loops, fragmented rhythms and evolving experimental textures
