The Dreamcoat has the exact specs of the Aiwa TP-1001 reel-to-reel preamp used by Ritchie Blackmore.
It can be an unruly, velcro-y and sputtery beast, but can also be tamed for a more Classic Rock sound.
Think of it like a console being blown out, but completely under your control!
What began as an exploration of a specific 1960s and 1960s Classic rock tone evolved into a multidimensional gain machine.
The Dreamcoat isn't meant to instantly transform you into Ritchie Blackmore.
It's meant to inspire you by giving you access to a rare tool that would otherwise be inaccessible in pedal format.
All of the functionalities of the Aiwa TP-1001 are present, from sparkling cleans to powerful crunch and glassy leads.
The Sat control gives you an extra layer of grunt, allowing the Dreamcoat to go from near-dry tonal indifference to Neil Young-esque Tweed sounds.
Catalinbread also added a frequency booster circuit inspired by the booster found in Blackmore's Strat: giving you a richer tone with some extra oomph!
To top it all off, Catalinbread included a clean blend circuit that begins after the frequency boost and ends after the tape preamp.
This allows you to EQ the sum of your clean tone and dirt, all while preserving your pick attack and presence.
The whole shebang runs at 20V, just a hair higher than the original Aiwa, expanding its capabilities and delivering tons of headroom!
