In recent years, many manufacturers jumped on the trend of offering overwound Strat pickups.

Overwinding produces a louder pickup with a more pronounced mid hump. However, this comes with a loss of low end.

Vintage pickups were often underwound, resulting in a bright and more open sounding pickup.

Too few winds and the pickup can sound thin and clinical. Too many and the pickup will be harsh on the top end and muddy on lows.

Getting the balance right is part of what makes a pickup sound amazing.

With the BlueBird J1 pickups, King Tone found the perfect balance of scatter windings, magnet strength and coil shape.

The BlueBird J1 pickups produce a pure, vintage and fat tone. The perfect Strat tone!

Renowned guitarist Jesse Davey refined this design over a 15 year period to get as close as possible to the Stevie Ray Vaughan tone.
