If you’re hunting for that classic PAF tone, you can’t go wrong with OX4s!

Curious what PAF means?

PAF is an acronym for Patent Applied For.

It’s the nickname given to the original Gibson humbuckers designed in 1955.

PAF pickups were loaded into all of Gibson’s humbucker-carrying guitars between 1957 and 1962.

Most notably, PAF pickups were used in the legendary "Burst" Les Pauls.

What is the PAF sound?

The tone is powerful but also very open and dynamic, with a strong and bright attack, smooth mids and plenty of bottom end.

PAFs made it into the guitars of legends like Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Paul Kossoff, Peter Green and Jimmy Page.

Great pickups

I installed these in a 2023 Gibson Les Paul 60' standard replacing the original pickups, what a difference gone is the predominant midrange and the lack of dinamics. Now the guitart is very responsive to the touch and cleans up nicely with the volume. If you're looking for vintage tones up to 80' rock-metal (with overdrive pedal) blues and jazz sound very nice also. Once the height is adjusted correctly balance between the 3 pickup position sound very balanced and usable. No wonder people are putting these in Gibson custom shop Les Paul r8-r9-r0 with great results. My observations were made with my amps: Carr Slant 6v (think Fender) and Victory Sherif (think Marshall). I will be purchasing more of these at these prices they are hard to beat.

Replaced the stock pickups in my Gibson SG Standard and they're never coming out. Sound excellent through my Friedman Little Sister for AC/DC and other classic rock tones. They can do metal too in my Mesa Mark V too. Love em.

OX4 Low Wind installed in 1998 Gibson R8 LP Standard

These are very nice humbuckers. Especially, considering the reasonable price.
I would describe them as well balanced, harmonically rich and classically open voiced. Nice PAF ‘quack’ in middle position. Compared to the ‘57 Classics, I took out, they are a little more compressed. Look forward to hearing how they sound with the band, but they sound fantastic at home at moderate volume levels and I get the feeling that there will be some welcome, controlled feedback being unpotted. Very happy so far !!

Good PAF tone

Bought a set to replace the MHS in a 58' reissue 335. The MHS were great but lacked a bit of clarity and articulation. The OX4 sound very close to the MHS, while fixing that issue they remain clear and articulate on any setting. They do work great with gain as well. They also feel very responsive to the touch. Great vintage PAF repro.
