Get the iconic Purple Haze tone!
The Octavia is synonymous with Jimi Hendrix. In fact, Roger Mayer designed the Octavia for Hendrix in 1967!
So, what does an Octavia sounds like? Listen to classics like Purple Haze, Fire, Little Wing and Machine Gun.
The Octavia generates an overtone an octave above the note you’re playing and mixes in some Fuzz.
The combination of the two effects really accentuates the harmonics created by the fuzz.
The effect produced can be dramatic and somewhat unpredictable, but that’s part of the charm.
It can be subtle or wild depending on the settings used and will respond to your playing.
The Octavia will sound tangibly different depending on where it's placed in your effects chain.
A clean tone from the guitar with the tone control rolled off will produce "Ring Modulated" overtones (as heard on Hendrix's Who Knows).
If a fuzz is placed in front of the Octavia, an upper octave double is created (think Purple Haze).
Who else uses Octavias?
Stevie Ray Vaughan owned 9 Tycobrahe Octavias!
You'll also find different variations of the Octavia on the boards of Kenny Wayne Shepherd, John Mayer, Doyle Bramhall II and Philip Sayce.
