The Discomfort Designs The Colour of the Young Star is a stereo ambient reverb and pitch processor designed for everything from subtle spaciousness to vast, evolving and otherworldly soundscapes. Combining an expansive reverb engine with an independent pitch shifter, it gives you two powerful effects that can be used separately or together for a huge range of atmospheric textures.

The reverb section offers intuitive control over the shape and character of your ambience. Size adjusts the perceived dimensions of the virtual space, Decay controls the length of the reverb tail, Damping shapes its high-frequency response and Modulation introduces movement and chorusing for deeper, more animated textures.

A three-position Trails switch changes how the reverb behaves when bypassed. On allows the reverb tail to decay naturally after the effect is disengaged, while Off cuts it immediately for tighter transitions. Reverse transforms the reverb envelope into a swelling, reverse-style effect, opening the door to more experimental ambient sounds.

Before the reverb sits an independent pitch shifter that can transform your signal before it enters the reverb engine. Choose between an octave up, octave down or perfect fifth to create everything from shimmering upper-octave ambience and harmonically rich layers to deep, atmospheric sub-octave textures.
