Turn your amp into a Tweed Champ!

All the way back in the 1940s, Fender introduced the Champ amplifier, then known as the Champion 800.

After a lengthy series of part swaps and circuit revisions, Fender arrived at the 5F1, otherwise known as the Tweed Champ.

It featured just one knob, volume, that went to 12, and if you’ve ever played one, that’s about all it needs!

Just that one knob can coax a myriad of tones, from gently gritty cleans to honking, mid-heavy blown out distortion.

Unlike most amp-in-a-box devices, the Formula 51 features a preamp, a discrete power amp simulator and an output transformer to deliver the full touch-sensitive

Tweed experience, with a grip of extremely interactive controls!

The Sag control loads down the transformer to your taste, giving you some real-deal blown-out leads with the twist of a knob.

The Tone control is straight out of the vintage amplifier playbook, incorporating the mid scoop control of the Framus Cobra amp.

This time-tested mod essentially turns the mid-leaning Tweed profile into the mid-scooped Blackface sound of later Champs.

Run it at 18V for more headroom or stack it with other pedals to really dig into that transformer!

Not really a "tone" switch

This pedal is an amazing mini amp modeler (for me). The tone nob works as advertised in the video reviews: it goes from a wooly tone when pointing left, to a cleaner, thinner tone on the right. The right side tone is almost Vox-y at the extreme right position but with less sparkle/presence.

I have a two channel amp that models Fender and Vox amps, Fender is the dirty channel and Vox is the clean. I'm currently using the the Formula 51 as the final tone stage for both channels. I feel like this pedal was designed for my needs!

For those of us who can only afford reasonably-hand-drawn facsimile amps of original classic Fender Tweed and Vox AC amps, this is the best pedal I've found so far to get even closer to those classic amp tones. I like both amp tones so I've set myself the simple task of doing both in one amp...

N.B. this pedal can be powered up to 18 volts, which I haven't tried yet. And I am not even engaging the sag nob at all, currently. So it has a depth of use that will keep me experimenting.
